I have seen similar gift ideas randomly in google searches before, but have never seen how they were made, where they got the yarn etc. So I decided to do some searching for the right products for my idea, and I’m pretty happy with how this Yarn Bouquet turned out!
We made this to give to my grandma for Mother’s Day, because she’s the family yarn fanatic. She loves flowers too, but I know she will be touched by the cute gift featuring one of her favorite hobbies. She and my Mom gave me my love for creating and crafting, so I know she will appreciate that I made it too.
How to make a Yarn Bouquet
You will need:
- Mini Yarn Skeins (I found this adorable set of 12 on Amazon HERE)
- Knitting Needles or Crochet Hooks (one for each skein or ball of yarn)
- Small flower pot
- Dry floral foam
- Green shredded paper
- Ribbon (for making a bow)
- Hot Glue Gun
- Wooden skewer (optional)
First, you will need to take the flower pot you chose, and cut a square of floral foam to fit snugly inside. Press it down tightly into the pot, and you won’t need to hot glue it, or you can put some glue on the bottom of the foam and then press it down.
Next, take a handful of your green shredded paper (you can use any color, I just liked green since we were making a yarn bouquet to give the illusion of a plant) and press it into the holes around the foam. No need to glue, it stays in place fine.

Next, you will take your knitting needles (or crochet hooks, whichever method your yarn lover likes to create with) and stick the mini yarn skeins on the ball end. Press the sharp end of the knitting needles into the foam, arranging them to fit and fan out in your flower pot as you go.
Lastly, if you’d like to add a finishing touch, you can tie a small bow out of ribbon and either hot glue it to the front of the flower pot, or hot glue it to a bamboo skewer stick and press the stick into the foam in the pot.
Now your Yarn Bouquet is finished and ready to give as a gift! Alternatively, if you didn’t want to use mini yarn skeins (even though they’re super cute), you could also make your own yarn balls from regular size yarn skeins.
