Make these adorable chick and bunny cupcake toppers for spring using homemade (or store-bought) cupcakes with a few easy upgrades! Perfect for Easter or just a cute spring dessert!

Whether it’s Easter Egg Oreos or Stained Glass Cross Cookies, Easter is one of my favorite holidays to make desserts for! All the colors are bright and cheery, which makes me really happy.
Cupcakes are my go-to sweet treat because they’re simple, and when in doubt, I can have my hubby make them for me, and I can decorate them later!
Bunny and Chick Cupcake Toppers
If you’d like, you can also make your chocolate cupcakes from scratch! Just add a skim coat of chocolate frosting to the top, it doesn’t need to be a mountain of frosting! Next, you’ll make your own cute decorations!
You will need:
- 12 chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting
- Edible grass
- Yellow melting candy
- Orange melting candy
- White melting candy
- Pink melting candy
- Parchment Paper
- Baking Tray
- Optional Icing Decorations (Like these adorable sugar carrots)
Sadly, the bow ties and glasses that I used in this post originally (7 years ago) have been discontinued! But, you can use any icing decorations that you like, there are always a ton of cute ones for every season!
Or you could use the melting candy to make your own bow ties and glasses if you want. It’s very easy if you want to go that way instead!

Line a cookie sheet with wax or parchment paper. Melt yellow melting candies in a microwave-safe bowl until they can be stirred smooth.

Put the melted yellow candy into a piping bag, or do like I did and put it into the corner of a ziploc baggie.
Snip the end off the baggie or piping bag, and make overlapping ovals onto the wax paper.
When you’re done making the ovals, add any directions directly onto the melted candy. Then melt some orange melting candies and add them to a piping bag or baggie the same way you did the yellow, and pipe on a cute orange triangle for the chick’s beak.

Next you’re going to do the bunnies. I used a melting candy that had little speckles of blue, green, and red in it, because it was what I had on hand. You should not do that.
The little pieces of color get stuck at the end of the bag and it’s really annoying, ha! Just use plain white.
Pipe a big circle for his belly, a smaller circle for his head (think snowman at this point) and then squiggle on ear shapes at the top.
Press on his cute little bow tie (or carrots!). I also used pink melting candies to squiggle on the insides of his ears, but you don’t have to do that if you don’t want to.

Stick the cookie sheet into the freezer on a flat surface and let the chocolate completely harden.
While you wait, you can frost the cupcakes. I used chocolate to resemble dirt. Then I found these awesome green grass sprinkles. I wanted to use edible grass, but couldn’t find any at my store and I didn’t have time to wait for an Amazon order this time.
After about 10-15 minutes, you can take the toppers for your Bunny and Chick Cupcakes out of the freezer. Gently press them into the tops of your frosted cupcakes to finish them off!

A quick and easy way to dress up any chocolate cupcake this spring! You can even make the toppers ahead of time and store them in an airtight container for up to a week before baking or buying your cupcakes!
