If you’re looking for meaningful Easter crafts to make with your kids this season, this “He Is Risen” craft is such a lovely one to add to your plans. It’s simple, hands-on, and a beautiful way to talk about the true meaning of Easter with children. Whether you’re crafting at home, in Sunday school, or as part of church group crafts, this project helps bring the story of Jesus to life in a creative and age-appropriate way.

I always love religious Easter crafts that are easy enough for younger kids but still meaningful for older children too. This one works really well for elementary age kids, and with a little help cutting, it can even be adapted as a He Is Risen craft for toddlers. It’s a great addition to your Bible crafts collection and fits perfectly into Easter lessons about the resurrection.
We have a free printable template to make it even easier to set up. Grab it at the end of this blog post.

He Is Risen
The phrase “He Is Risen” comes directly from the Easter story in the Bible, when the tomb of Jesus was found empty on the third day after His crucifixion. In the Gospels, the angel tells the women who came to the tomb, “He is not here; He has risen,” announcing the resurrection of Jesus.
For Christians, this moment is the heart of Easter and the foundation of the faith. It represents hope, new life, forgiveness, and victory over death.
When we say “He Is Risen,” we are celebrating the belief that Jesus is alive, and that His resurrection brings promise and joy. It’s a simple phrase, but it carries deep meaning and is why religious Easter celebrations focus so much on the cross, the empty tomb, and the message of hope.

How to Make This Christian Easter Craft
To make this Jesus centered Easter craft, start by cutting out all the pieces from the template (keep reading to download at the end of the blog post)
Trace each shape onto the corresponding construction paper as shown in the example photo, then carefully cut them out. This is a great opportunity for kids to practice fine motor skills while working with paper and scissors.

Next, stick the yellow circle onto the orange circle to create a glowing sunrise effect, using your glue stick.
Then attach the cross in the center. This simple step creates a beautiful risen Easter scene and opens the door to talking about what the cross represents in the Easter story.

Take your cross shape and glue this in front of the sunset.

Now take the brown paper and fold it in half. This means your craft can stand up independently when you finished making.

Carefully cut a hole into it to create the tomb opening.

Then cut a matching hole from the black paper and glue it behind the brown piece so it lines up with the opening. This creates the dark inside of the tomb.

Attach the stone template beside the opening to show the stone rolled away. Kids really love this part because it visually represents the moment Jesus is risen.

After that, attach the circle with the cross behind the tomb scene so the sunrise and cross peek out from the background.

Finally, write “He Is Risen” across the top using a marker. You can also choose to write “He Has Risen” if that fits your Easter lessons. Either way, it becomes a bold, joyful statement that ties the whole craft together.

This He Is Risen cross craft is such a simple but powerful piece of Easter art that children can proudly take home.
