Slime is fun, but this Edible Magic Melting Slime is out of this world! It’s a scientific phenomenon!

We’ve made every kind of slime in just about every method there is out there in the past year and we’ve loved every minute of it! I have a toddler and a seven year old, so we all get involved and get our hands sticky and enjoy the sensory fun with each new batch. My worry is always my ornery toddler who thinks she can eat the “eww” as she calls it, so I have to watch her very carefully while we play with it.
This Edible Magic Melting Slime is absolutely perfect for toddlers, big kids, teens and adults! My husband and I have probably played with this more than the kids have, but they’ve had their fair share of fun with it too. It’s made from products that are right in your kitchen. It may not be tasty, but it’s definitely safe and edible WOW is it neat!
Edible Magic Melting Slime is a non-newtonian fluid that acts like a liquid and can be poured, but when quick force is applied acts like a solid. Basically, if you move fast, it acts like a solid, if you move slow, it acts like a liquid. It’s amazing! This has provided hours of fun at our house, and I’m sure your house will love it too.
Edible Magic Melting Slime
You will need:
2 cups, or a 16 oz container, of corn starch (corn flour in the UK)
1 2/3 cups of warm water
Liquid food coloring (optional, but I’m linking you to these amazing neon colors we used!)
Glad Press N Seal
In a large bowl, combine the water and a lot of whatever color food coloring you want your Edible Magic Melting Slime to be. I say a lot of food coloring, because the corn starch will absorb the color quickly so you need more dye than usual. If you just want it to stay a murky white, then no food coloring is needed!
Use a fork, and later a silicone spatuala to mix the corn starch into the water. Mix until it’s completely dissolved. This will be tough at first, which is why you need the fork. Mix until it’s a thin liquid. Then leave it uncovered and wait.
After about an hour, your Edible Magic Melting Slime should be to the perfect consistency. It will still look like the same liquid, but will react completely differently than before. Slowly stick your fingers in. Then try to quickly grab a handful of the solid, and see what happens. Slap the top of the liquid and watch how nothing sticks to your fingers.
We liked to see how quickly we could make a small ball of it by rapidly rolling it in our hands, squeezing all the while, and then dropping it back into the bowl and seeing it immediately turn back into a liquid. It’s so much fun! We made multiple batches. I can’t wait until you make this and see how much fun it is!
To store it to play with again and again, just cover the bowl with Glad Press n Seal, like we did, or put it in an air-tight container. If it becomes too solid, use a fork and break it up a bit and add small bits of warm water at a time until it reaches the same awesome consistency again.
