No-Sew Sock Snowman

This No-Sew Snowman Craft is the perfect activity for chilly winter days! Made with simple materials you probably already have at home, this easy kids’ craft is great for all ages and requires no sewing skills. Great for the classroom or a family craft night on a budget!

I really like sewing, like when I made my own DIY curtains. But rarely do I have the time these days! However, this pattern doesn’t require any sewing and hardly takes any time to make! I really loved making this No-Sew Snowman and my word do they turn out cute!

No-Sew Sock Snowman

I made these the other day with a group of kids for homeschool-co-op and every single one of them turned out adorable. Each one was a little different in size, shape and color. The kids did a great job, and they were so simple that I had to share the how-to with you all too.

Supplies

• All white sock (it’s super hard to find all-white without a grey toe or a brand name on the toe, so I’m linking you to all white ones I found on Amazon)
• Colored ankle sock (patterns would also be fun – linking you to some cute ones!)
• Orange Pipe Cleaner
• Rice
• (2) rubber bands
• (3) buttons (color of your choice)
• Poly-fill
• Black permanent marker
• Pink regular marker
• Ribbon
• Hot glue gun
• Scissors

No-Sew Sock Snowman {VIDEO}

Before we dive into the step-by-step instructions, here’s a quick video overview of the process to give you an idea of how it works!

Instructions

First you will need to fill the toe of your white sock with rice. About half a cup should do with an adult sock. This is just to give it enough weight that it will stand on its own. Then take a large handful of the poly-fill fluff and shove it in the sock on top of the rice. Form it with your hands into a nice, tight ball. Use a rubberband to tightly secure it all together.

Next for your No-Sew Snowman, you will need a smaller handful of poly-fill fluff. Shove it in the sock on top of the rubber band you just secured the bottom half with. Then secure it with a rubber band too.

Make sure it’s nice and tight. Use your hot glue gun to run a thick line of glue underneath the smaller ball of your snowman, and then firmly press the head and body of the snowman together for 2-3 minutes until the glue dries. This will give your snowman a full and fluffy look, which is what you want.

Next, trim the excess sock so that your snowman now has a man-bun. The girls in my craft group thought this was hilarious, and didn’t even want to cover up his man-bun with a hat. Leave no less than 1/2 inch of excess sock.

Next, you are going to place three drops of hot glue on the front of his body, and glue a button on each dot. You can use black buttons, or fun colored buttons like these.

Next you will need to make an adorable little scarf from ribbon for your snowman. Before you cut the ribbon, wrap the ribbon around the snowman’s neck to measure how much you will need. It’s different with each snowman.

Cut the ribbon. Use the hot glue gun to attach one end of the ribbon to the snowman body, and then the other side of the ribbon to the ribbon underneath it.

Use the permanent marker to make two black dots for the eyes, and five black dots for the mouth. Then use your regular pink marker to make little rosy cheeks on your No-Sew Snowman.

Cut the piece of pipe cleaner to about 1/2″ long. Put a bead of glue on one end of the little piece of pipe cleaner and then hold it onto his face for about fifteen seconds, or until it’s dry.

For the last step in making your No-Sew Snowman, you will need to cut your colored sock (I REALLY can’t wait until my patterned socks I found HERE come in so I can make some with hats like that!) to make the snowman’s hat.

All you do is cut the sock, because all you need is the toe. Once it’s cut, roll the edges and stick it on his cute snowman head! You can glue down the edges if you want it to stay in place permanently. My kids like to switch hats, so we left our unglued.
