If you want to make amazing cookies that will wow your kids, friends, co-workers, and family, you need to make these Easy 3D Christmas Cookies! Made with a no-chill sugar cookie dough, they’re not difficult at all, and they’re a show-stopper!

When I found these 3D Christmas Cookie Cutters, I was so excited and knew I could turn them into something truly amazing!
I used THESE cookie cutters to get this amazing effect and my no-chill sugar cookie recipe. This dough doesn’t change its shape during the baking process, so all the little joints will still fit! Plus, since it doesn’t need to be refrigerated, this recipe comes together super quickly. I am over-the-moon excited at how these 3D Christmas Cookies turned out!
How to make 3D Christmas Cookies
These cookies look like they take a lot of time and effort, but in reality, they come together very quickly! Check out this short video with the complete overview of the process and then get the full printable recipe at the end of the post!
You will need:
These are the supplies you will need to make just the Christmas tree cookies! The set of cutters that I recommend also includes a snowman, a sleigh, and a reindeer. So if you choose to make any of those cookies, you’ll need other food colors, icing colors, and decorations!
- 3D Christmas Cookie Cutters
- Green Food Coloring (these gels are best)
- Green Cookie Frosting
- White Cookie Frosting (optional)
- Jumbo Rainbow Nonpareils
- Yellow Star Sprinkles

Best Tips for 3D Christmas Tree Sugar Cookies
If this is your first time making these cookies, here are a few things I’ve learned over the years, so I’m passing those tips on to you!
- Coloring – Don’t use icing to color the dough before baking, it WILL NOT WORK. Instead, use a gel dye for the deepest color. We also really love these all-natural colors for a more vintage and muted Christmas experience (without the food dye!)
- Fitting – Because this dough doesn’t expand, you should be able to just slide the pieces together. Make sure that the dough thickness is no more than 1/4″ so that they will fit, and there is no need to add icing to the joints.
- Decorating – Once the cookies are together, hold the bottom piece (or let the cookies stand) and add your icing and decorations! Don’t try to decorate the pieces before you put them together!

Double or Triple the Recipe
Since this is a small-batch sugar cookie recipe, it was created to only yield enough dough for 12 finished 3D cookies. So if you need to make a LOT of them, then you may need to double or triple the recipe.
Remember, each of these cookie designs actually includes 2-4 cookie pieces (depending on which cutter you use), so you won’t need to make as many of these 3D Christmas Cookies because they’re a lot more “cookie” than traditional cookies are!

Ingredients
- 3 cup flour
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 egg yolks
- 3 Tablespoon mayo (optional, but it makes them SO soft!)
- 1 Tablespoon vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- dash of salt
- food coloring (gel is best)
- green cookie icing
- sprinkles or decorations of choice
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- Cream together the sugar and mayonaisse.
- Then add in the butter and mix.
- Then add in the butter, vanilla, and the egg and mix until combined.
- Next add in the four, baking powder, and salt and mix.
- Once it’s a crumbly dough, stop using a fork to mix, and start using your hands to combine it until it forms a nice cookie dough.
- Split the dough into three equal pieces and put in separate bowls.
- Add in the desired food coloring to each bowl and mix with your hands until the color is evenly dispersed into the dye.
- Sprinkle a surface with flour, and flour your rolling pin.
- Roll the dough out to about 1/4 thick and cut your cookie pieces out one at a time. The dough is soft, so transfer them to your greased cookie sheet carefully. If a detailed piece breaks off, just gently press the piece back together, and it will bake fine.
- Bake them at 350°F for 6 minutes, then rotate your cookie sheet and cook for another 3 minutes.
- Remove them from the oven and leave them on the baking sheet to let the pan continue to cooke them while they cool for five minutes.
- After five minutes, move them to the cooling rack to let them finish cooling completely.
- Use the cookie icing to attach the details to each cookie. I added snow and ice crystal sprinkles to the runners of the sleigh, ornaments and a star for the Christmas tree, and an eye and a red nose for the reindeer.
