Pregnancy can be confusing. There’s so many unknown details that make it difficult to know when, or if, something is an actual symptom of pregnancy, or is a result of something else.
TMJ (Lockjaw)TMJ is pretty common for women to develop in pregnancy. Most doctors attribute this condition to stress, and if bad enough, you can get a mouth guard to help.
Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD)
Basically what happens with SPD, is that the hormone Relaxin is released too soon in the body, and causes the pelvic joint to become loose and unstable.
ConstipationI had debilitating constipation in my second trimester, and it turns out a lot of women do. Hormone fluctuation can screw with your digestion system causing constipation.
Round Ligament Pain
It’s like a sharp pain in your side that comes on fairly quickly and almost feels like a bad muscle cramp. If you move to a new position, it generally helps.
InsomniaFor me this hit toward the end of my third trimester with my first pregnancy. Talk to your doctor about a sleep-aid that’s safe during pregnancy if it gets out of control.
Weird Dreams
Speaking of insomnia, another one of the weird pregnancy symptoms are crazy dreams.
I have a friend who had terrible, horror-like dreams while she was pregnant.
