I’m pretty obsessed with IKEA. I feel like my obsession is justified because of all the amazing things I find there. Before I went for the first time, or even after the first time (because it was so much bigger and more overwhelming than I anticipated (if you’ve never been to IKEA read THIS POST before you go)) I had NO idea of all the IKEA Secrets that were being hidden behind those blue and yellow walls! They sell so much more than just cheap furniture and Swedish meatballs!

13 Things you Didn’t Know They Sold at IKEA

FABRIC

I love buying fabric, and basically hoard it in a big dresser in my craft room. IKEA makes this easy with their gorgeous, thick fabric that’s CHEAP! They have some incredibly unique and vintage-type designs that I love and I think prices are like $7/yard! Bonus: You don’t have to wait for anyone to cut your fabric, they have a cutting table, scissors and a little card for you to fill out yourself right there!

WRAPPING PAPER

They have wrapping paper, and bows and matching ribbon. This will not be wrapping paper you can find at Walmart with Disney characters on it, but typically looks vintage and awesome and I love it! In usual IKEA fashion, it’s very cheap too.

CHRISTMAS DECOR

One of my favorite IKEA secrets I discovered not too long ago is that they sell Christmas decor! Ornaments, garland – the whole bit! You better believe I’m going back once I can buy a ton of that next Fall!

ARTIFICIAL PLANTS & FLOWERS

They have a crazy big assortment of fake flowers, greenery, foliage, and grasses! They even have gorgeous vases and baskets to put it in and their prices are REALLY low! Flowers were really good quality too, and I’m pretty picky about that.

USB AND WIRELESS CHARGING KITS FOR TABLES

At IKEA you can buy end tables and nightstands and lamps with USB plugs or wireless charging built-in to the tops of them for easy charging of your electronic devices. One of the coolest IKEA secrets is that they sell those kits to install into your EXISTING tables for really cheap! They have a whole section for this in their lighting section.

PET SUPPLIES

I was really surprised to see they sold pet supplies at IKEA! They have cat boxes, leashes, food dispensers and so many more things! Like, a TON of stuff and an entire section of the store! All great quality and prices!

TOOLS

This would SEEM like a no-brainer and not one of the IKEA secrets since everything you buy at IKEA you have to put together yourself, but did you know they sell tools?! Not crazy big machinery, but basic tool kits! These are great to buy and keep around the house, and affordable enough that when you lose the screwdriver again you won’t feel bad about it.

WOOD STAIN

They not only sell wood stain in tons of different shades, but a ton of different colors too! Their stain is incredible affordable (like $3-$4 a can) and is perfect for customizing those unfinished pieces of IKEA furniture!

ART WORK

They have framed artwork, posters, poster frames, paintings and more. On top of that they always have some kind of featured artist each month or so that sells one of a kind pieces at a really affordable price. Last time we were there they had hand-spun pottery pieces!

REAL PLANTS

On top of all their fake foliage, they also have a very large selection of real plants you can buy. All the plants were in great condition, sold for really low prices, and were beautiful. From what I saw, they were mostly, if not all plants that would do well indoors specifically, as they are sold inside and not in a greenhouse or anything. They also have tons of flower pots to put them in at low prices.

INTERNATIONAL FOODS

They have an entire grocery section at IKEA. Here you can buy all kinds of mostly European foods. They have an entire candy section (DO NOT BUY the salted licorice and bag it with your other candy…it’s VERY salty) where you can buy international candies by the pound. They also have a big frozen foods section, fun international beverages, snacks, and even some awesome coffee!

KITCHEN APPLIANCES

Did you know one of the best kept IKEA secrets is that they sell big kitchen appliances? They sell microwaves, stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers and more for very low prices! They were great quality too! They had a great selection in-store to browse as well in a variety of colors and finishes. They even sell mini-fridges and portable stoves!

ART SUPPLIES

The last of the IKEA secrets is that they sell art supplies! They have everything from kid’s art supplies like crayons and markers and kid’s scissors to perler beads, watercolors, specialized scissors and everything in between! They have sketch pads and art shirts for kids and so much more! I was really impressed by the quantity and price of items they had!
