If your kids are into Star Wars, this Chewbacca craft is such a fun one to try. It’s simple, barely messy, a and fun in the best way because it turns a basic paper plate into everyone’s favorite Wookiee.
We’ve done a few Star Wars crafts lately, and this one was definitely a hit especially because Chewbacca has that big expressive face that kids love to recreate.

Chewbacca is one of those characters that even younger kids recognize straight away. He might not say much (well… not in words we understand anyway!) but he’s loyal, brave, and always by Han Solo’s side. This makes him a great pick for Star Wars Day crafts or just a fun afternoon activity if your kids are currently obsessed with all things Star Wars.

Supplies You’ll Need for your Paper Plate Chewbacca
This chewbacca craft uses really simple supplies, which is always a win. You’ll need a paper plate for the base, brown paint to get that classic Wookiee look, and some construction paper for the facial features. Add in scissors, glue, and a marker, and you’re good to go.
It’s one of those easy crafts where you don’t need anything fancy, and you can easily swap in what you already have at home. Perfect for everyday crafts with kids or even classroom activities.

How to Make a Chewbacca Craft
This is a nice straightforward craft that kids can mostly do themselves with a little guidance. The painting part is always their favorite, and then it’s just a case of putting all the pieces together.
Paint the paper plate brown and let it dry, then cut sharp triangle shapes along the bottom edge to create that furry Chewbacca look.

Next, cut and trace the templates onto the corresponding construction papers and cut those out as well.

Once everything is ready, start assembling the templates one by one to build up Chewbacca’s face.

Attach the hair pieces onto the paper plate,

put together the mouth and eye pieces like this

then stick on the eyes, and finally add the mouth to finish it off.

Once it’s all put together, you’ve got a brilliant Chewbacca face that kids will be really proud of. You can hang it up, use it as part of a Star Wars display, or even turn it into a puppet craft by adding a stick.
This easy Chewbacca craft is great for working on fine motor skills, especially with all the cutting and sticking, and it’s a fun way to encourage creativity too. It’s also perfect if you’re putting together a set of Star Wars crafts for kids printable activities or themed day crafts.
