Dr Seuss books are a classic for lots of good reasons, and he is a master of wordplay so dr. Seuss’s books are perfect inspiration for some silly jokes.
If your kids already know their red fish from their blue fish, have strong opinions about green eggs, or can spot a tall striped hat from across the room, these Dr. Seuss jokes should get plenty of laughs.
I’ve also put together a printable set of joke cards featuring some of our favorite jokes from the list. Print them, cut them apart, and use them at home, in your homeschool, in the classroom, or anywhere you need a quick dose of silliness.
When to Use These Dr. Seuss Jokes
Actually funny jokes work pretty much any day of the year, but there are a few occasions when these are especially fun.
Dr. Seuss Day is celebrated on March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss, so that is the perfect time to pull out some Dr. Seuss books, make a themed snack, and add a few jokes to the day.
They also work really well for a Dr. Seuss reading unit, library week, book-themed classroom activities, homeschool reading lessons, or simply alongside a family read-aloud.
You could pop one into a lunch box, leave one at each place around the dinner table, or let kids take turns reading them aloud. They’re also an easy activity when you need something fun without lots of setup.
And if your child has a serious funny bone, just pull them back out whenever they need some new material. After all laughter is the best medicine any day of the week!
Printable Dr. Seuss Joke Cards

The cards use bright colors and simple illustrations to go along with each joke. Just print the pages, cut along the dashed lines, and you’ll have a whole stack of joke cards ready to use.
For something a little sturdier, print them onto card stock. You can also laminate them if you want to use them year after year.
The first page is packed with Cat in the Hat jokes, including fish, music, a scratch pad, and even a lawn meower.
Page two carries on with more Cat in the Hat humor before moving into some One Fish Two Fish inspired jokes.

The Cat in the Hat is probably one of the first Dr. Seuss characters most kids recognize, which makes him especially easy to build jokes around.
Between the giant hat, the cat puns, and the chaos that seems to follow him everywhere, there is plenty of material.
The hat jokes are some of my favorites in this set. The idea that the Cat can’t play hide-and-seek because his hat gives him away is exactly the kind of joke kids will repeat five times in a row.

One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish gives us plenty of easy fish jokes too.
Kids love anything involving a red fish, a blue fish, or a completely ridiculous fish pun, so jokes about schools, shell phones, and vitamin sea fit right in.
These are especially good for younger kids because the punchlines are short and easy to remember.

Easy Ways to Use the Joke Cards
There are lots of simple ways to use these cards without turning them into a whole lesson.
You could put one into your child’s lunch box each morning, hide them around the house for kids to find, use them as reading practice, or let kids take turns being the joke teller.
They’re also handy for classroom brain breaks. Pick a card, let a child read the question, and have everyone try to guess the punchline.
For younger readers, the cards are a fun way to practice reading aloud without the pressure of a long passage. Because they already know there’s a funny answer coming, it makes the activity feel much more like play than schoolwork.

Make Your Own Dr. Seuss Joke Game
You can turn the cards into a quick little game too.
Put all the cards into a box or bag and let each child choose one. They read the question without showing anyone the answer, and everyone else gets to guess the punchline.
You could award a point for guessing correctly, or simply keep going and see which jokes get the biggest reaction.
Another idea is to divide the cards by Dr. Seuss character and see which group has the funniest jokes.
It’s a very simple activity, but sometimes those are the best ways to keep kids entertained.
