With warmer weather, comes more outside time for us as a family. We love to play with sidewalk chalk, but making this Sidewalk Chalk Mosaic was the most fun!
It only took a couple of supplies we already had on hand, but kept all of us busy for an entire hour! This is definitely something we will do again and again.
How to Make a Sidewalk Chalk Mosaic
Step 1: Gather your supplies.
You will need:
- Painter’s Tape (1″ works best)
- Sidewalk Chalk (this Crayola kind is the most pigmented)
Step 2: Make your lines.
We’re gonna ignore my mom bun, stretchy pants, and hideously un-manicured landscaping – Spring just got here and I’m a mom – mom buns and stretchy pants are a staple.
Use the painter’s tape to make random connecting lines on your sidewalk. Smaller shapes are best for a couple of reasons.
- Kids will have a much easier time coloring small shapes.
- This will be very helpful when your chalk pieces get small.
This is what your lines will look like when you’re done. You can make any shapes you want, we just loved these random geometric lines for our Sidewalk Chalk Mosaic.
Step 3: Color in the shapes.
My girls are nearly six years apart in age, and sometimes it can be tough to find activities appropriate for both of them. This Sidewalk Chalk Mosaic was awesome for everyone involved. Even my husband voluntarily hopped in for some coloring!
Pro Tip: Color everything in really well for the biggest pops of color.
Step 4: Remove the tape.
Once you’re completely done coloring in all your shapes, remove the painter’s tape. Don’t use duct tape, or masking tape etc, because they will stick too firmly to the concrete and you’ll regret it.
Unlike removing painter’s tape from walls, you can pull the tape up as quickly as you want. This only takes a couple of minutes to do.
When ours was done it looked like this! The mailman LOVED how it looked this morning, and I like to think we are spreading a bit of cheer with our colorful sidewalk!
