Ingredients
2pie crusts
1/2cupraspberry pie filling
1/2cuppowdered sugar
1 1/2tablespoonsmilk
Red food coloring
Instructions
Use the heart cookie cutter to cut out the pie crusts. I was able to get 5 hearts out of each crust. Place them on a greased cookie sheet.
Use a spoon to place a heart-shaped section of pie filling on 5 of the hearts. DO NOT OVERFILL. You will regret it.
Place the 5 plain hearts over the filled hearts. Use a fork to crimp the edges before baking.
Preheat your oven to 450°F and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until slightly golden brown.
When they're done baking, they should look like this. Let them cook on a cooling rack for 10 minutes.
Use a fine paintbrush to paint little messages onto your pies in red food coloring. Just use the food coloring directly, no need to water it down! Don't use too much or it will bleed into the pie crust and look really funky. Let them dry for 10 minutes before adding the glaze.
Place wax paper on your cooling rack. Place the pies on the wax paper and spoon the glaze carefully over the top of the pies. The food coloring won't bleed unless you press on the words and smear it.
Let them dry for 10-15 minutes and then they're ready to eat!
Notes
Don't overfill the pies.
Smaller pie filling like berries is better than cherry or blueberry.
This recipe only makes 5 hand pies, so double the recipe if you need more!
