Slime is fun, but this Edible Magic Melting Slime is truly out of this world! It’s a fascinating scientific phenomenon that everyone in the family will love. Because all the ingredients are food-safe, this slime is perfect for toddlers or young children!

We’ve tried every type of slime out there over the past year, experimenting with different methods and enjoying every moment. With a toddler and a seven-year-old, it’s a family affair where we all dive in, getting our hands sticky and indulging in the sensory fun. My main concern is always my curious toddler, who thinks she can eat the “eww,” as she calls it, so I have to keep a close eye on her.
This Edible Magic Melting Slime is perfect for toddlers, big kids, teens, and even adults! My husband and I have probably played with it more than the kids, but they’ve had plenty of fun with it too. It’s made from ingredients you already have in your kitchen. While it may not be tasty, it’s definitely safe and edible—and wow, is it neat!
Easy Non-Newtonian Melting Slime
Edible Magic Melting Slime is a non-Newtonian fluid, meaning it behaves like a liquid when poured slowly but acts like a solid when a quick force is applied. Basically, if you move fast, it feels solid; if you move slow, it acts like a liquid. It’s amazing and has provided hours of fun in our house. I’m sure your family will love it too!
How to Make Edible Magic Melting Slime
This activity is so simple but so entertaining! It takes a little bit of patience to get that perfect texture, but it’s worth it!
Ingredients
- 2 cups, or a 16 oz container, of corn starch (corn flour in the UK)
- 1 2/3 cups of warm water
- Liquid food coloring (optional, but I’m sharing the amazing colors we used!)
- Large bowl
- Silicone spatula
- Fork
- Glad Press N Seal

Step-by-Step Instructions
- Mixing the Colors: In a large bowl, combine the warm water and plenty of food coloring. You’ll need more dye than usual because the corn starch absorbs the color quickly. If you prefer it to stay a murky white, skip the food coloring.
- Combining Ingredients: Use a fork to mix the corn starch into the water. This will be tough at first, which is why the fork is necessary. Mix until it’s a thin liquid, then let it sit uncovered.
- Waiting for Magic: After about an hour, your Edible Magic Melting Slime should reach the perfect consistency. It will look like a liquid but react differently. Slowly stick your fingers in, then try to quickly grab a handful and see what happens. Slap the top and watch how nothing sticks to your fingers.

Playing with the Slime
We enjoyed making small balls by rapidly rolling the slime in our hands, squeezing it all the while, and then dropping it back into the bowl to watch it turn back into a liquid. It’s so much fun! We made multiple batches and can’t wait for you to try it and see how much fun it is!
Storing Your Slime
To keep your slime for future play, cover the bowl with Glad Press N Seal or put it in an airtight container. If it becomes too solid, break it up with a fork and add small amounts of warm water until it reaches the same awesome consistency.
