Everyone who knows me, knows I love weird and funky stuff! I love turning old things into new, usable objects. I love decorating with things that are absolutely one of a kind and stand out. I also really really love color, and really really love Christmas! So this year I found some amazing bags of colorful vintage buttons and made these Button Trees!
Button Trees are so easy to make, and make awesome Christmas decor! Every single one of them will be different (unless you use the same exact buttons on the whole tree) and I love that about them. These are definitely different, and they really were fun to make! Even my little girls helped!

You will need:
Floral Foam Cones (this link gets you 6 of them for a really good price!)
Spray Paint (optional)
Buttons
Hot Glue Gun
I knew I was going to see gaps between the buttons on my Button Trees. I decided to spray paint mine with a coat of navy blue before I added buttons, because I didn’t want to see the green foam. This step is optional, but it’s how I did it.

I started with a row of large buttons at the bottom, and made a solid row all along the very bottom of the Button Trees. I just used hot glue to attach the buttons to the foam. After that I moved from bottom to top, starting with the largest buttons at the bottom and finishing with the smallest at the top. I also used smaller buttons to fill in large gaps as needed.
When you’re done, you will need to remove any dried strings of hot glue you can see on your Button Trees. This just gives your finished trees a cleaner look.
I tried to vary my colors and button styles as much as possible for the best final product. I am absolutely in love with these and can’t wait to use them for years to come! How will you make yours? Will you use a rainbow of colors like I did, or just a one or two colors? Will you use vintage buttons, or new ones?

It’d be cute to cover the cone in fabric then apply the buttons?

You could try that for sure!
