If you’re looking for an easy patriotic craft to make with the kids, this Handprint Uncle Sam Craft is such a fun one. I always love handprint crafts because they double as little keepsakes, and this one is especially cute with the handprint becoming Uncle Sam’s famous beard.
This craft is perfect for the Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Presidents’ Day, Veterans Day, or anytime you’re talking about American symbols and history. The printable template makes it really easy to put together, and kids love adding the googly eyes at the end to bring Uncle Sam to life.

Materials Needed for your Handprint Uncle Sam
For this patriotic handprint craft, you’ll need some basic supplies that you probably already have at home or in the classroom. Gather some peach paint, googly eyes, a marker, construction paper, scissors, glue, and our free printable template.

The template takes all the guesswork out of the craft, making it simple for younger children to join in too.
How to Make Your Handprint Uncle Sam
Start by cutting out a handprint from white paper. This will become Uncle Sam’s beard, so it’s the star of the whole project. Once you’ve cut out the handprint, use a marker to trace around the edges to help it stand out.

Next, print the template and cut out all of the pieces. Trace each piece onto the correct color of construction paper and cut them out. Once everything is cut, go around the edges with a marker to give the pieces a bold, finished look.

Paint the face piece with peach paint and allow it to dry. When it’s ready, glue the face onto the top portion of the handprint so the fingers hang down to form the beard.

Now it’s time to put together Uncle Sam’s famous hat. Assemble the hat pieces like this.

Glue them onto the top of the face. The bright red, white, and blue colors instantly make the craft recognizable.

Next, assemble the mustache and beard pieces and glue them into place.

Layering these pieces over the handprint creates the classic Uncle Sam look.

Finally, attach the googly eyes and add any extra details you’d like with a marker. That’s it – your Handprint Uncle Sam is ready to display!

There’s something about using their own handprint that kids never seem to get tired of. It makes the craft feel personal and gives them a chance to create something that’s uniquely theirs.
I also love that this project works for a wide range of ages. Younger kids can help paint and glue, while older kids can handle the tracing and cutting themselves. It’s simple enough to keep little ones interested without becoming frustrating.
