Planting seeds when the weather gets warm is one of my all time favorite things to do. My kids love helping as well, but these DIY Seed Bombs makes an awesome Mother’s Day gift when you pair it with the free printable!
These are pretty foolproof, so you won’t need to worry about messing this up if you’re not crafty! It’s basically just soaking and shredding paper, sprinkling on seeds, and letting them dry, then attaching the printable tag. Super easy, AND super personal for a Mother’s Day gift!
If you’re just here for the free printables, and don’t want to read the tips on printing and instructions on how to put these together below, then you can get those HERE.
How do you make this DIY Mother’s Day Seed Gift?
Step 1: Gather your supplies.
You will need:
- Free Printable DIY Seed Bombs Mother’s Day Tags
- Sandwich Baggies
- Silicone Molds (I used these)
- Construction Paper
- Cardstock Paper
- Mesh Strainer
- Hot Glue Gun or Stapler
Step 2: Print off the Mother’s Day Seed Bomb labels.
Don’t print these on regular paper, as they won’t hold up, but instead print them on cardstock.
Step 3: Tear and soak the construction paper.
I used 4 sheets of each color to make these seed bombs, but it made way too much. I’d say use 2-3 sheets of construction paper per color max, if you plan to make 24 bombs in four different colors like I did.
Tear the construction paper into little pieces and let them soak in water for an hour, or overnight. This will feel like it takes forever, so let the kids help. They like destroying stuff anyway, right?
Step 4: Blend the paper into pulp.
After it’s soaked and is thoroughly wet, you will need to blend it into pulp so it will form into the DIY seed bombs for Mother’s Day. Pour all the water and the paper into the blender and pulse it until it’s mush, like shown.
Step 5: Strain the pulp for the DIY Seed Bombs.
Use a mesh strainer and get most of the water out of the paper pulp. Don’t press all of it out, because you need them to be wet, but you don’t want them to be over-soaked either.
Step 6: Place the paper pul in a bowl.
Place each color, if making multiple colors, into its own bowl so you can start making your Mother’s Day DIY seed bombs.
Step 7: Fill your Seed Bomb molds half way.
Press the paper pulp firmly into the silicone molds and fill them halfway full.
Step 8: Add the seeds to your DIY Seed Bombs.
Sprinkle a few seeds into each seed bomb. When you choose your seeds, make sure to get seeds that need similar sun exposure so you can mix and match these when you bag them up to give them as a gift.
Step 9: Fill the molds up.
Once all your seeds are in there, finish filling your silicone molds to finish up your DIY Seed Bombs. Press the pulp in tight and make the tops level to make sure everything sticks together like it’s supposed to so it won’t separate when it dries.
Let your DIY seed bombs dry overnight in their molds, and then carefully remove them from their molds to let them finish drying. Place them in a dish like a cake pan to let them dry undisturbed.
I set mine out in the sun to let the breeze and sun dry them all day.
Step 10: Package your DIY Seed Bombs for Mother’s Day!
This would be an awesome gift idea for Churches to give moms, classrooms to make for their moms, or for kids to make to give to mom and grandma alike!
