Outdoor Scavenger Hunt Printable (Spring & Summer)
If you’re anything like me, you’re always looking for screen-free activities for your kids that keeps them moving and soaking up some sunshine. This scavenger hunt checks all the boxes—simple to set up, great for all ages, and perfect for helping kids notice the little details in the world around them.
It’s fun enough to feel like a game, but sneaky enough to help them practice observation, patience, and even a little nature appreciation!
What You’ll Need
- A printed scavenger hunt list (grab yours below!)
- A pencil or crayon to mark off found items
- Optional: a little bag to collect safe, non-living items (like a leaf or rock)
That’s it! No fancy supplies or hours of prep needed. This activity is great for a wide range of ages—my youngest loved checking off the pictures, and my oldest turned it into a race to find everything first!

Where To Go for Your Scavenger Hunt
One of my favorite things about this scavenger hunt is that you can do it just about anywhere outdoors! It’s a great activity for family BBQs, playdates, or just a way to make the most of a sunny day. We live on a little bit of land, so we often do this hunt around our home!
Here are a few ideas for where to go for your hunt:
- Your backyard
- A nature trail
- A city park
- Around the neighborhood
- At grandma’s house!
Ideas to Make It Even More Fun
Once your kids have their scavenger hunt lists in hand, you can add a few extra twists to keep things fresh and exciting. These simple variations are great for turning the hunt into a full afternoon adventure, and they’re especially fun if you’re doing the activity with a group of kids or repeating the hunt on another day.
These ideas are easy to adjust for different ages and attention spans, so feel free to pick and choose what works best for your crew!
- Take Photos – Turn your scavenger hunt into a mini photography challenge! Instead of collecting items or checking them off, have your kids take pictures of everything they find. This version is especially great for older kids who like using a camera or phone. You can even make a scrapbook or slideshow afterward with all their finds. It’s also a fun way to keep the flowers and bugs right where you found them.
- Make it a Color Page – Since there are so many colors in nature, my son loves to come inside and color in the printable with the versions he found for the day! It makes a fun indoor activity while they cool down, and helps them solidify the experience as well.
- Do it Again Later in the Season – Nature changes so quickly from spring to summer—and even from one week to the next. Doing the same scavenger hunt later in the season is a fun way to see how things have changed. Are different flowers blooming? Are there new bugs or birds around? It’s a great chance to talk about seasons, growth, and how nature moves through time.
